1. What is the role of the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee?

The Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee is a is a civil, non-profit, sports association formed by the Brazilian Olympic Confederations, the Brazilian Olympic Committee and by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.  Its mission is to promote, organise and realise the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to the Host City Contract guidelines, of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency and in respect of Brazilian legislation, the Olympic Charter and the IPC Rule Manual.


2. What are the services offered by the Rio 2016™ Supply Website?

In addition to being the first main communication of the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee with the market, according to the organisation´s principles of transparency, the Supply Website offers supplier Pre-Registration and Registration services.


3. Once I´ve filled out the Pre-Registration form, can I supply Rio 2016™?

Not yet.  At this time, the company becomes a supply candidate of the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee.  Each time there is a need for new companies, the Committee Supply specialists will search among those companies registered in the Pre-Registration and will invite those who have the profile for the requirement.  The candidate company, thus, will go through an accreditation process after which it will be registered in the Rio 2016™ supplier Registration.


4. Should I forward some document to be qualified?

All documents for the process will be annexed in the Rio 2016™ Supply Pre-Registration Website.  The required documentation is described here.


5. What are the benefits for suppliers to participate in the Supply Website Pre-Registration?

The Supply Website is the channel wherein Rio 2016™ centralises its communication with the market. Registration in Pre-Registration allows for accessing the hiring of goods and services with equal opportunities and accredits for consultation of information on the competitions, document control, etc.  Basically it is the first step to accessing great business opportunities that companies will have with the Olympic and Paralympic Games.


6. The registration information stored through the Supply Website are secure?

The security structure of Rio 2016™ was designed according to the best international practices and standards for financial and confidential transactions.  The data using the system are decrypted, excluding the possibility of external access.  Moreover, the technical architecture developed for the website has two firewalls which serve as extra barriers to protect the transactional environment.


7. How will the selection of Olympic and Paralympic Games supplies be made?

Given the competitons and requests for simple quotes.  The suppliers will be selected and analysed, from your Pre-Registration information, according to the requirements of each category.  The procurement specialists will perform the research on this database.

Both the registered suppliers as those pre-registered, can apply as candidates to the competitions published on the Website.  The difference is that the suppliers with a profile on the Pre-Registration will be submitted for analysis and accreditation of their registration prior to being considered accredited for competition.

Registered suppliers will be declassified in the competitions, or not invited in quote requests if they do not respond to one or more of the compulsory requirements for hiring.


8. Can only large sized businesses participate in Rio 2016 Pre-Registration and Registration Rio 2016?

On the contrary, we would like to encourage the development of micro, small and medium-sized businesses, massively communicating our needs and requirements, just as working together with different development organizations in the training of suppliers.  The supply capacity of a company will be analysed by the Supplies specialists and this capacity will or will not participate in a specific agreement competition with the scope of each need for goods and services.


9. Will Rio 2016™ purchases only be made for the year of the Games?

On the contrary.  Almost 75% of hiring for goods and services for the Games will be realised in 2014 and 2015. However, the Committee has different sized requests at each point for a large variety of products and services.  Due to this, from now to the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games, simple quote competitions and requests will be held.


10. What type of products and services will be needed by Rio 2016™?

The list of goods and services needed by the Organising Committee is enormous, reflecting the complexity of the event and its organisation in sustainable standards.  In addition, there are business segments in which there are no businesses acting in the County and which will need to be developed to respond to the Games.  In our Documents area, there are graphs which show the variety of areas which receive orders throughout the current Olympic cycle.


11. Can I use the Rio 2016™ brands?

Rio 2016™ brands can only be used in specific cases and under conditions previously agreed between the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee and its official partners.  Access here the Rio 2016™ brand use conditions.


12. What will happen with the sports venues built for the Games?

Of the venues needed for the realisation of the event, 47% already exist, several were developed or renovated for the Pan-American and Parapan-American Games of Rio 2007.  The other 25% will be temporary.  Each venue has a commercial plan, guaranteeing its long term sustainability and contributing to the development of Olympic and Paralympic sports.


13. How will the Games help to preserve and improve the city´s environmental conditions?

The Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Sustainability Program supported by the three levels of government will contribute to advances in environmental questions connected to the conservation of water, renewable energy, waste management and social responsibility.  A large group of management tools is used to monitor and supervise the goals traced by the program.  In the Supplies area, the principles, strategies and sustainability goals are established in the Sustainable Supply Chain Guide.  By demanding sustainability requirements in its hiring of goods and services, Rio 2016™ hopes to collaborate to raise the market of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil to a new level in environmental, social and economic terms.
